Rainbows
03:10

I can’t escape the cloud of cherry-flavored pipe smoke
that hangs around our house you left behind.
All of the nights I wept, the nights I never slept
thinking about you.
How can I stop the clouds from swallowing the rainbows
that stretch across our sky above our house?
The spaces where you should stand,
the silences I wish you could fill with words of love and hope and love.
All of the nights I wept, the nights I never slept
thinking about you.

Turning Ghost

It’s like the good old days now your ghost came back home.
Mother kept all of your things as they were in your room.
It must have been so cold there, all alone and lonesome.
It’s like the good old days now your ghost came back home.
Sharing dreams of helicopters and mountain roads.
We’re afloat, our arms spread like wings across the room.
We’re afloat, our eyes bright and wide like the moon.
It must have been so cold there, all alone and lonesome.
It must have felt a little like losing your way to heaven.

Lessons in Soaring
03:28

It seems you like to fly.
There’s a place that you should go.
A school I used to know.
Don’t worry… You won’t be alone.
I’ll be right there drifting through the clouds watching you soar, turning white. booooooooooooo…
I was once alive,
before the gentle breeze
could push me like a kite.
But don’t doubt your propellers or they might fail.
And don’t forget about the breath inside your chest. It helps you float. It helps you to fly. booooooooooooo…

The Crash!
02:39
|
|
||
The lights turned on and all the stars came falling down.
We rose up high above the hills outside of town.
I swear I saw him there, alone like me, so I turned towards the summit.
The tree line twirled around so fast the colors blurred.
The engine roared and spit and spun the whirlybird.
The lights went out and all my nerves came to life.
I took my grip from the controls and closed my eyes.
And then all at once, I heard your voice above the engine’s sputter.
And through the silver smoke, I saw your face and crashed into the river.

Plans to Steal a Bird
02:27

And I’ll go at night, once they’ve shut the lights out.
And I’ll climb up high above the wires.
And I’ll dance around the buzzing spotlights
that swarm like hornets around their hive.
And I’ll sleep all day in preparation
and I’ll eat only my favorite things to eat.
And I’ll wear the night dressed like a panther
with gloves that hide my identity.
And I’ll clench my teeth in pure frustration,
and I’ll love you so hard that I can’t breathe…
And I’ll turn the handle and take the controls,
and I’ll save you a seat.

Rescue/Reunion

And the telephones we made-
two tin cans and some wax and string.
And the fool you made of me,
telling jokes I was too short to reach.
And that bitter lemonade
you turned brand new with just a single sugar cube.
And all the promises we made-
the ones we broke, the one’s we hope will never break.
And the telephones we made-
two tin cans and some wax and string.
And the fool you made of me,
telling jokes I was too short to reach.
And that bitter lemonade
you turned brand new with just a single sugar cube.
And all the promises we made-
the ones we’ll keep, the one’s we hope will never break.

Back Home
02:18
|
|

Diving down through cotton clouds.
The sunset red and burning proud.
We’re drifting down to touch the ground.
All I wanted you to see was how much you mean to me.
Its taken way too long to get back where we belong…
back home… back home… back home.
